Above is the old Mozilla Logo Vs. the new Mozilla logo. Now, I love the company and their approach to the internet, but I don’t love this new brand identity that they have. For me, it just seems dated. Even the imagery that they are using for this rebrand seems like a horrible throwback to 90’s MTV and VH1 videos. Don’t get me wrong, they were amazing videos back in the day, but looking at them now feels awkward.
I get where Johnson Banks is trying to go with this new approach, but I just don’t think it quite got there. The slab serif font is in my opinion a nice choice, and it kinda conveys that the company has something to do with the internet but it almost seems unreadable.
I look forward to seeing what other designers will be saying about this new branding package for Mozilla.
